Claude Pro vs Max: what Pro, Max 5x and Max 20x get you
Pro costs $20, Max 5x $100 and Max 20x $200 a month. Max buys five or twenty times Pro's session allowance and includes the Fable models. If you hit the five‑hour limit less than once a week, I would stay on Pro.

Claude Code runs for hours on most working days, often in several sessions at once. Chat and Claude Code share one limit, so long agent runs leave less for the chat.

How the limit works
There is no message count. What one message costs depends on its length, the files attached, how long the conversation already is and which model answers.
In the provider's words: “The number of messages you can send will vary based on message length, including the length of files you attach, the length of your current conversation, and the model or feature you use.”2
Chat, Claude Code and the desktop app draw from one pool. A long Claude Code run in the morning leaves less for the chat in the afternoon.
In the provider's words: “Note that your usage of all different Claude product surfaces (claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Desktop) counts towards the same usage limit.”4
Two limits stack: the session limit resets every five hours, the weekly limit at a fixed time per account.

Hitting the limit does not have to stop the work. Paid plans can switch to usage credits billed at API rates.

- What does Claude Pro cost in Switzerland?
- Anthropic's pricing page shows US dollars from Switzerland: $20 a month, or $17 a month when billed yearly ($200 up front). The prices shown exclude tax. Anthropic offers local-currency pricing where supported, so check the final amount at checkout.
- How many messages do I get with Claude Pro?
- Anthropic does not publish a number. A message costs more the longer it is, the more files it carries, the longer the conversation already runs, and it depends on the model or feature you use.
- Does Claude Code use the same limit as the chat?
- Yes. claude.ai, Claude Code and Claude Desktop all count toward the same usage limit.
- Is the weekly limit also five or twenty times bigger on Max?
- Anthropic states the 5x and 20x per session. How much larger the weekly limit is on Max is not published.
- What happens when I hit the limit?
- You wait for the five-hour reset, or you switch to usage credits billed at API rates. The weekly limit resets at a fixed time each week.
- Can I pay for Max yearly?
- No. Max is a monthly subscription only. Pro can be billed monthly or yearly.
